"Red-Haired" Shanks also frequently called "Red Hair", is the captai of the Red Hair Pirates a member of the 4 Emperors that rule over the New World He is also a former member of the legendary Roger Pirates, the only group to successfully conquer the Grand Line, where he started as a pirate as an apprentice. Significantly, he is the pirate who influenced Monkey D. Luffy to go on his journey as a pirate, and his crewmate Lucky Roux discovered the Gomu Gomu no Mi that was mistakenly eaten by Luffy.
ContentsAppearanceEdit Shanks is a relatively tall guy (simply under 2 meters), durable, tan-complexioned, and in the prime of his mid-adulthood. Amongst the Four Emperors past and present he stands out as the smallest, most normal-sized without a doubt, the others being numerous degrees of inhumanly proportioned. Real to his epithet, Shanks has clearly red hair: usually illustrated throughout media as deep-crimsonish. Worthwhile of note is that, distinctively amongst all characters yet seen, even ones with equivalent hair tone, Shanks' hair is the sole one filled with grayscale in the black-and-white manga (rather of inked black or left white). His first-seen hairstyle was a straight, middle-parted one kept loosely down to nape length, with much shorter (at eye level), curtained bangs in the front. In later on looks (at 10 years older), he is revealed with a little longer hair, wavier and more slicked back than prior to other than for some couple of strands he lets fall down the sides of his face, pushed farther sideward than said prior bangs.
On his face resides a secondary trademark: a triple set of vertically parallel, linear scars that pass at an angle over his left (untouched) eye, exposed to have actually been provided to him by Blackbeard some unidentified time prior to the start of the series. In addition, Shanks' left arm is missing out on from listed below the deltoid, an outcome of him conserving Luffy from a Sea King when Luffy was a child.
As did his hair, Shanks' face modifications as the manga's art style progresses: at first, it appeared more younger, a soft jawline tapering down to a little, pointy chin. Its features were similarly milder than later depictions and, save for his small nose, also larger, most so his plain-black eyes, topped by thin brows. Later appearances show him more significantly countenanced, the square of his jaw, the sharper, narrower set of eyes, and the sculpted, more prominently bridged nose lending him a manlier appearance. More consistent stays the man's facial hair, however, that he has always kept in a nicely thin connection of beard and mustache bristle, forming the starts of a circle beard.

Clothes-wise, Shanks used to wear a certain straw hat obtained from Gol D. Roger (his former captain) that was associated with his image till he passed it on to Luffy. Otherwise, his attire always includes a sweeping long, sleeveless black cape with a high collar (in the anime bearing a lighter, gray inside), and under it a simple, white shirt half-buttoned up, exposing the middle of his chest and upper abs. Additionally, Shanks is constantly seen wearing pants cut below the knee, gathered midway up the shin. At First (Chapter 1) the set was a slightly loose, plain-brown one with golden buttons down the outer leg sides, and with a red sash around his waist to keep his t-shirt tucked inside. Later on, he is seen using a various, slightly baggier pair of pants with a green-yellow, indiscernible flower pattern (now exposing plenty leg hair), and his shirt is left out of his sash, which is now revealed holding his saber at his ideal side. Finally, his footwear includes basic brown shoes, their soles gray-studded. After the timeskip, he is at some point seen wearing various trousers yet once again, light-colored with a rose pattern.
